Mom's Heart
I call this Mom's Heart because when I sent a picture of it to my Mom, she said it was hers. 4'X4'

The glass castles I made myself with glass rods and a torch. When the glass gets hot enough to bend and shape it becomes a red fire ball. There is no way I can tell what color I am working with. I will do a bunch at a time and totally forget what color the base is!

The shape of the castles started out pretty plane and straight – then I started to experiment with swirling the hot glass. While it is hot I can add other colors – that is how I wrapped the second color around the original. If it cools and you try to add glass, it will explode! I have to work with several red fireballs at a time. I did the dots by heating up a third color and simply touching the hot fire ball with it.

The metal on the heart is from scraps I found at the hardware store – it looks so pretty & shiny. The feathers are from an interior design store that was going out of business. If you will notice, I have the castles on moss that I put on a metal bar sticking out about an inch from the heart. I love the organic element the moss added to the cold of the metal and glass.

I didn’t put any of my fused tiles on this piece because I have a tendency to “over-do” things and I didn’t want it to get too busy. I now sign my pieces with a fused glass “L”.

Yes, I have a fire extinguisher close by & I know how to use it! I have burned myself 2 times now – both stupid and having to do with me actually touching the torch! Once to adjust the air flow, I was trying to get more heat. The second from thinking I should take the torch head off the gas canister because I didn’t want to store it on the canister – it was still hot. Both burns healed quickly, no scars, and I promise I will not do that again!!! OUCH!
