Don’ts: Drink caffeine-type beverages. Drink excessive alcoholic beverages. Stay away from very hot or spicy foods or beverages. No smoking. Exposure to extreme temperatures; very hot & sunny or very cold & dry. No sun, no sun, no sun! SPF 30, SPF 30, SPF 30. Excessive physical exertion. Saunas, steam, hot showers or baths. Remember, any of the above will greatly improve your risk of flare ups and break outs. If you cannot quit everything at first, start out by modifying your daily regime and cut back until you eliminate these things from your lifestyle. Do’s: Use a loofa daily (not on your face) to increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage in the body. Try to get a full-body massage on a weekly basis again to increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage in the body. Use a cool-arm bath with relaxing mint balm or horse chestnut extract; which provides capillary strengthening benefits. Do moderate exercise such as walking in fresh air (not cold/hot) or yoga or some similar non-high impact exercise. Eat vegetables and fruits rich in Vitamin C to help strengthen the elasticity of the capillary walls. During the day use a lipid-based moisturizer with UVA & UVB protection. (I recommend, Barrier Repair, Intensive Moisture Balance or Skin Smoothing Cream with Solar Defense Booster & Intensive Moisture Concentrate - all by Dermalogica, of course.) At night use a skin soothing moisturizer with anti-inflammatory properties. (Again, I recommend Intensive Moisture Balance or Skin Smoothing Cream with Gentle Soothing Booster.) Men should use a dry shave method rather than wet to reduce risk of irritations. Glycolic acids (and some AHA’s) will help this condition, but be very careful to use a product with nothing less than a 3.5 PH and nothing greater than 10% in strength. (You may experiment with this to some degree, depending on the severity of your condition. Talk to me or your dermatologist.) Supplements: Evening Primrose Oil - 3 - 6 capsules daily. Grapine or Grapeseed Extract, High Potency - 2 -3 daily to strengthen capillaries. Treatments: Micro-Dermabrasion has been proven to be incredible for rosecea. It is just amazing the improvements you can experience with micro-dermabrasion. It improves the circulation, closes the pores and reduces flare-ups. In Conclusion: Rosacea is not curable, but with proper diet and a healthy lifestyle it can be managed. Please give these Do’s and Don’ts a chance and let me know how you are doing. If anything new or better comes along, I will let you know. |
